Building Upon Taketomi’s Culture at HOSHINOYA TAKETOMI ISLAND RESORT

With our modern way of life displacing traditional cultures, Taketomi Island is one of Japan’s few remnants of traditional culter and art. This reflected in the architectural and landscape design of the house in Taketomi Island.

At Hoshinoya Taketomi Island Resort, life moves at a calm pace, whether in the small kitchen garden or the large, wide open pool. Every guest has their own garden in which they can relax and be at one with nature, and everything in the resort is a natural, fitting extension of the charms of Taketomi island.

Okinawa is home to many local dishes that use ingredients commonly found in the islands. The coral-rich waters around Taketomi Island are home to numerous species of fish and shellfish, such as Japanese tiger prawns, that are brought in fresh every morning.

The resort’s unique dining concept of French cuisine is supported by the Head Chef, Tatsuo Nakasu, who has won numerous international cooking competitions and is determined to develop Okinawa cuisine that draws its
inspiration from local ingredients. Menu offerings are subject to change according to the season and the availability of ingredients needed for preparation of certain dishes.

Feel like your body needs some stretching to loosen up the joints? Join the Yonna Deep Breathing group every morning to kick-start your day, feel the sea breeze, take in the crisp smell of the ocean, and listen to the calming sound of the waves while warming up with some stretching exercises. A fan of snorkelling and diving? The resort offers a half-day Snorkelling Tour and a half-day Diving Tour for those with a more adventurous spirit.

If you are into traditional crafts, there is the Taketomi Minsa Weaving Experience workshop which will teach you how to create mini table runners using a foot pedal loom – a part of the history of Taketomi Island.

The Yuntaku Lounge is a common space for guests to interact with one another, it has a supply of books, CDs, and newspapers available for your reading pleasure. If you are feeling exhausted after a busy day, you can try out some of the treatments at the Spa Pavilions to rejuvenate your mind and relax your body.

If the weather is good, you can take a walk to the Observation Deck which offers a good vantage point from which you can see the entire Village and on to the Pacific Ocean beyond Aiyaru Beach. If you are an early-riser, the Observation Deck is an uplifting place to start your day with a magnificent sunrise reflecting rays of hope across the horizon.
