Tucked away on a corner of the Petitenget Flea Market in the hustle and bustle of Seminyak, Modicum is a quaint yet chic bar that hides a blissful gastronomic experience behind its walls. The restaurant serves authentic tapas-style food and refreshing signature drinks in a secluded, elegant environment for those who are looking for privacy and a memorable dining experience at THE MODICUM GASTRONOMY and ARTISAN BAR.
Modicum’s jet-black exterior with its gold decorations belies the classic restaurant and bar within. On entering we are lead to a classic interior, its design based on the bootleg bars of the American roaring twenties prohibition era and dominated by dark colours, warm wood, luscious velvet, vintage-framed pictures and bare bricks walls. Vinyl records play classic jazz and the likes of Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong or Etta James play in the background.
The menu at Modicum offers authentically presented decadent tapas. As a starter, organically farmed baby romaine can be a great choice especially those who love seafood; a creamy yet
crunchy blend of parmesan, parmiggiano and fried fresh shrimp to stimulate your taste buds. For the main course, we might recommend grilled octopus served with cauliflower, tomato chutney, baby potatoes and sunny side up quail’s egg – an elegant, well-presented dish which, although compact in size, is amazingly rich in taste. For a perfect wrapper, Valrhona flourless chocolate cake is to die for; a dark chocolate cake with coffee cream liquor and strawberry jam giving a fine combination of sweet, bitter and sour flavours which takes the definition of ‘perfect wrapper’ to the next level.
To accompany the meal, you can sample one or two of Modicum’s artisan cocktails
such as The Manhattan, Martini, Gimlet, Old-Fashioned and Negroni. Bitters are home-made, blends are aged in house. There is the herby, fruity Elatior and the classy Aristrocat which, combining single malt whisky and black tea, leaves a warm, soothing caress in the throat.
