Often incorrectly referred to as ‘the’ Maldives, these islands are situated approximately 700 kilometres south-west of Sri Lanka and 400 kilometres south-west of India with the territory spread over approximately 90,000 square kilometres. As an island nation, Maldives comprises almost 1,200 islands only 200 are inhabited.

As the smallest Asian country with a population of only about 300,000, this charming island nation is able to attract almost 10 million tourists annually and that is so amazing.  The Resort development regulation is unique; one island for one resort and therefore exploring through the Internet when choosing the right accommodation is essential before going there.

After doing enough delving into my next destination of Maldives and having decided where to stay, I began my journey by flying to Kuala Lumpur where I then caught my next 4 hours 10 minutes direct flight to Male International Airport, the capital and the largest city in Maldives where almost one third of the population lives. As soon as I landed at the simple Male International Airport my holiday mood immediately began, I went to the city and checked-in at a basic hotel before continuing my dream destination the next day.

The next morning I went back to the airport where I was greeted by the Waldorf Astoria Maldives representative and I was soon boarding a small plane with a 40-passenger capacity but with no lavatory inside!
