A BRITISH TRADITION WITH A SINGAPORE TWIST AT TEA LOUNGE

At Conrad Singapore Orchard, Tea Lounge is giving the classic British high tea a distinctly Singaporean twist. Served beneath the hotel’s skylit atrium, Weekend High Tea: The Great British Tradition brings together freshly baked scones, finger sandwiches and nostalgic British treats with familiar local flavours, from laksa to prawn congee. The result is a generous weekend spread that goes well beyond the conventional afternoon tea.

British favourites set the tone, with classic and raisin scones served with Cornish clotted cream and seasonal jams. Finger sandwiches include Cucumber, Egg Salad and Watercress, and Smoked Salmon with Caviar, while homemade favourites such as Jammie Dodgers, Bakewell Tart and Bourbon Biscuit add a nostalgic touch.
The savoury selection is where the experience takes a more substantial turn. Herb-Crusted Roast Beef Striploin, served with Yorkshire pudding, horseradish cream and red wine jus, is among the highlights from the live station. Alongside it, Singaporean and Asian flavours come through in Chef Chong’s Signature Laksa, prepared with rice noodles, sea prawns, pulled chicken and quail eggs in a fragrant spiced fish stock.

There is plenty more to discover, from a Gravlax Bar to Ocean King Prawn Congee with Pork Meat Ball and Caramelised Kurobuta Pork Char Siew. Together with the live station, these additions make Tea Lounge’s weekend spread a more substantial interpretation of traditional high tea.
Dessert returns to British classics with Victoria Sponge, alongside creations such as Tudor’s Rose, with raspberry mousse, rhubarb compote and vanilla sponge, and The Orchard Apple, combining Madagascan vanilla cream, Granny Smith apple compote and almond biscuit. Assorted Nyonya Kueh and Kueh Lapis bring a final local touch to the sweets selection.

For those looking to linger a little longer, the high tea can also be complemented by a two-hour free-flow package, offering a choice of Prosecco and wines or Champagne and wines at an additional cost.
With its blend of British tradition and Singaporean flavours, Tea Lounge offers a fresh interpretation of weekend high tea. With a wide selection that extends well beyond the usual scones, sandwiches and sweets, it is worth a visit for those who enjoy plenty of variety alongside the traditions of high tea.
