HERITAGE MEETS ARTISTRY IN THIS YEAR’S MID-AUTUMN MOONCAKE COLLECTION

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, beautifully crafted mooncakes are once again taking centre stage as one of the season’s most cherished traditions. Beyond being a festive delicacy, mooncakes have also become thoughtful gifts that celebrate culture, family, and artistry.
Marking its 125th anniversary, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has introduced a special mooncake collection inspired by its long-standing heritage. Under the theme “Metropole – A Tale of the Living Legend,” the collection pays tribute to the hotel’s history while embracing the traditions of Vietnam’s Mid-Autumn Festival.
Handcrafted without preservatives by the hotel’s culinary team, the collection features both baked and snowskin mooncakes in a selection of classic and contemporary flavours. Traditional favourites sit alongside modern creations such as orange zest with Grand Marnier, ube with cordyceps, and black sesame with sunflower seeds, offering something to suit a wide range of tastes.
Adding a distinctive local touch, the collection includes a collaboration with artisans from Bát Tràng, Vietnam’s renowned ceramic village. Handcrafted Heritage Plates, created using traditional layered glazing techniques, celebrate the country’s rich ceramic craftsmanship and reflect a shared commitment to preserving cultural traditions. Elegant lacquer gift boxes further enhance the collection, transforming it into a memorable keepsake long after the festive season.
Known locally as Tết Trung Thu, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of Vietnam’s most cherished celebrations. Families gather beneath the full moon to enjoy tea and mooncakes, while children take part in lantern parades and festive activities. The occasion remains a time to celebrate togetherness, express gratitude, and wish for prosperity in the year ahead.
As luxury mooncake collections continue to evolve, they increasingly combine culinary creativity with heritage-inspired design. By bringing together traditional flavours, contemporary presentation, and collaborations with local artisans, this anniversary collection reflects the enduring appeal of Vietnam’s Mid-Autumn traditions while celebrating 125 years of hospitality and cultural heritage.
